Using the Right Water for the Right Uses
Cheyenne uses recycled water to irrigate parks, athletic fields, cemeteries and green areas.
Recycled water is produced at Cheyenne's Crow Creek Water Reclamation Facility through
advanced treatment, filtering and disinfection.
By using recycled water, Cheyenne:
Saves Water. The parks, athletic fields, cemeteries and green areas that will receive recycled water
were irrigated from the drinking water supply. By using recycled water, Cheyenne keeps drinking water in the reservoirs. This builds drought resistance and extends Cheyenne's water supplies.
Keeps parks and athletic fields green, even during drought.
Recycled water is a drought resistant water source. The water
comes from water already in Cheyenne, not directly from the
mountains.
Provides a safe irrigation water source. Recycled water is prepared for irrigation purposes. The treatment process mimics the natural water cycle, only faster. It makes the water safe to touch while leaving small amounts of nutrients that plants need.
Recycled water can be safer than mountain runoff.
Puts less demand on the Sherard Water Treatment Plant, helping this facility last longer.
Less expensive irrigation water source for schools and
non potable commercial uses. This frees funds in our schools that can now be used elsewhere
and provides an cost-saving option to industries.
