Down the Line: A Survey That Matters

Each year, the Board of Public Utilities' Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) checks in with local businesses through a quick industrial discharge survey. The survey helps ensure grease traps, sand interceptors, and permits are in place and working, thus protecting infrastructure and the community.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires that the IPP assess their commercial users on a yearly basis. Each year, the Board of Public Utilities sends industrial discharge surveys to approximately 25-30% of its commercial accounts. We use this information to verify that all facilities requiring special attention, such as permits and grease or sand interceptors, have them installed an in working order. All new or potential businesses should complete this survey.
